なぜ土星がこんなに大きく見えるのでしょうか？実際にはそうではありません。写っているのは、地球の雲が月の前を横切っている様子です。月はわずかに三日月状になっており、その表面の大部分は地球の反射光である「灰光」によって見えています。太陽は明るく照らされた三日月を下から直接照らしているため、太陽は地平線の下にあるはずで、この画像は日の出前に撮影されたものです。この二度見したくなるような写真は、月が太陽の前を横切って日食を起こす2日前の2019年12月24日に撮影されました。前景には、巨大なパカヤ火山の背後にグアテマラの小さな町の明かりが見えます。ニュース：APODが国際天文学連合から初の普及賞を受賞

Why does Saturn appear so big? It doesn't -- what is pictured are foreground clouds on Earth crossing in front of the Moon. The Moon shows a slight crescent phase with most of its surface visible by reflected Earthlight known as ashen glow. The Sun directly illuminates the brightly lit lunar crescent from the bottom, which means that the Sun must be below the horizon and so the image was taken before sunrise. This double take-inducing picture was captured on 2019 December 24, two days before the Moon slid in front of the Sun to create a solar eclipse.
