ノルウェー上空のドラゴンオーロラ Dragon Aurora over Norway

空に見えるあれは何でしょう？オーロラです。この画像が撮影される数日前、先月大きなコロナホールが開き、高速で移動する電子、陽子、イオンの雲が地球に向かって放出されました。この雲の一部が地球の磁気圏に衝突し、北緯の高い地域で壮大なオーロラが見られるようになりました。ここに掲載されているのは、ノルウェーのトロムス上空で撮影された特に写真映えするオーロラのカーテンです。天体写真家には、大気中の酸素が再結合してきらめくこの緑色の光は大きな龍のように見えましたが、皆さんにはどのように見えるか、ぜひ共有してください。太陽活動極大期は過ぎましたが、太陽は時折活動を続け、先週も地球上で印象的なオーロラが見られました。

What's that in the sky? An aurora. A large coronal hole opened last month, a few days before this image was taken, throwing a cloud of fast moving electrons, protons, and ions toward the Earth. Some of this cloud impacted our Earth's magnetosphere and resulted in spectacular auroras being seen at high northern latitudes. Featured here is a particularly photogenic auroral curtain captured above Troms� Norway. To the astrophotographer, this shimmering green glow of recombining atmospheric oxygen appeared as a large dragon, but feel free to share what it looks like to you. Although now past Solar Maximum, our Sun continues to show occasional activity creating impressive auroras on Earth visible even last week.
