北天の勇猛な星座ペルセウス座の美しい星野には、有名な散開星団（銀河星団）であるh星団とChi Persei星団があります。NGC 869（右）とNGC 884としてもカタログ化されているこれらの星団は、どちらも約7,000光年離れており、太陽よりもはるかに若く高温の星々を含んでいます。わずか数百光年しか離れていないこれらの星団は、個々の星の年齢に基づいて計算するとほぼ同じであり、同じ星形成領域で形成された可能性が高いことを示しています。双眼鏡で見るだけでも素晴らしい眺めですが、暗い場所であれば肉眼でも二重星団を見ることができます。この美しい広視野望遠鏡画像では、星の色（と星雲の筋）が強調されています。

A lovely starfield in the heroic northern constellation Perseus holds this famous pair of open or galactic star clusters, h and Chi Persei. Also cataloged as NGC 869 (right) and NGC 884, both clusters are about 7,000 light-years away and contain stars much younger and hotter than the Sun. Separated by only a few hundred light-years, the clusters' ages based on their individual stars are similar - evidence that they were likely a product of the same star-forming region. Always a rewarding sight in binoculars, the Double Cluster is even visible to the unaided eye from dark locations. Star colors (and spikes) are enhanced in this beautiful, wide field, telescopic image.
