プラハの中心部には、建物ほどの大きさの時計があります。日中は、新しい時を告げる鐘の音に合わせて、大勢の人が集まります。プラハの天文時計の文字盤は驚くほど複雑で、太陽を基準とした予想時刻（太陽時）だけでなく、恒星を基準とした時刻（恒星時）、赤道を含む複数の緯度での日の出と日の入りの時刻、月の満ち欠けなど、さまざまな情報を表示します。この時計は1410年に稼働を開始し、内部機構の多くは何度も近代化されていますが、オリジナルの部品が残っています。時計の下には、ほぼ同じ大きさの太陽暦があり、これは1年に1回だけ回転します。写真は、2009年3月の早朝にプラハの天文時計だけが撮影されたものです。プラハの天文時計とその背後にある旧市街の塔は現在再び改修工事中で、時計は2018年6月に再稼働する予定です。

In the center of Prague there's a clock the size of a building. During the day, crowds gather to watch the show when it chimes in a new hour. The Prague Astronomical Clock's face is impressively complex, giving not only the expected time with respect to the Sun (solar time), but the time relative to the stars (sidereal time), the times of sunrise and sunset at several latitudes including the equator, the phase of the Moon, and much more. The clock began operation in 1410, and even though much of its inner workings have been modernized several times, original parts remain. Below the clock is a nearly-equal sized solar calendar that rotates only once a year. Pictured, the Prague Astronomical Clock was photographed alone during an early morning in 2009 March. The Prague Astronomical Clock and the Old Town Tower behind it are currently being renovated once again, with the clock expected to be restarted in 2018 June.
